On the Road Again

7:30am: WAKE UP

8:00am: Waffles and Mediterranean Scramble at the Streaming Bean (Pat calls it the Screaming Bean).

8:30am: Pismo Beach

9:00am: Drive to Santa Barbara! (we also passed Santa Claus Way). Activities included attending the Farmers Market, visiting the court house, and the Santa Barbara Mission.

12:00pm: Lunch on the road.

1:00pm-4:00pm: We got a lovely taste of big city traffic going through Malibu, Santa Monica and through LA. We couldn’t even go to the beach because of the wind. Look I am almost blowing away!

Fishy, fishy, FISHY FISH, Big Sur, and rain

After turning in at 6pm (quite embarrassing) we woke up bright and early to be first in line at the MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM.

squished toad

This picture is hard to see but it is a toad squished between a rock and the glass. It looks very uncomfortable.

All the birds we saw were rescue birds from the surrounding area!

My favorite part of the Aquarium was the Jelly Fish exhibit- it had a psychedelic 60’s theme. It was totally far out.

IMG_0087After having a quick lunch, we hit the road again heading to Pismo Beach and passing through Big Sur! Sadly it was pouring with rain and we didn’t get to see much. We made a pit stop to send some post cards and then I took a nap while Pat drove.

Pat didn’t get to nap, that’s why he is sleeping in the picture.

Are you together? Hotel Mix-up and THE ROCK

So we have officially left New England far behind! We said our good byes and headed off to security: “Are you too together?” The trip began on a great start. Of course we are together I am holding his passport and talking to him! Our flight to Chicago was fine, we changed planes and then landed in San Fran. We grabbed our bags, rented the car and hit the road. We found a parking garage near the hotel, took out all of the bags and carried them down the street (all 8 of them) past the sex worker hustling on the corner and to the hotel. Where we found out the room had been rented out and we were to go to Hotel Tomo instead. We took all the bags back to the car, past the sex worker and on to Hotel Tomo, which was quite nice. We got some food and passed out. The next morning was considerably better! We started with a great breakfast from a The Fillmore French Bakery around the corner from Japantown. ImageWe got a taxi and headed over to Pier 33 to catch the boat to ALCATRAZ!!!!

ImageI was so glad that we bought our tickets months ago. The line was quite long.

Pat enjoying the facilities.

WE ESCAPED!!!! (without a spoon)

Next up was the Sutro Baths where they filmed part of Harold and Maude (love that movie).

Next up was the Palace of Fine Arts, which was truly beautiful.

Then we drove back and forth across the Golden Gate Bridge and called it a day!

THREE HOURS LATER: We finally get to Monterey (after a few pit stops for cherries, to dip our feet in the ocean and changed drivers!) Image

The end of our first day in California! YAY!

Museum, dinna and ROLLER SKATING!

Yesterday I woke up to snow on the ground, in APRIL! Pat and I slowly made out way over to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (of course there were some characters on the T). We said hi to the little birdy that lives in the reading room near the entrance. Then we throughly enjoyed the John Singer Sargent paintings, the beautiful courtyard, and flowers. Later that day we went over to a friend’s house for delicious stir-fry and went to CHEZ VOUS- A GO-TO roller skating rink. It was totally dead- wednesday night is where-its-at. It was super fun and my thighs are still yelling at me.

Nine days and counting

Today we woke up early and got to cleaning (well after we went to the mall for some treats IE new shoes which I have no business buying because I already have too many). Yesterday we took advantage of the weather and went to the beach- however today was so wet and windy, we opted to stay in and clean. The kitchen looks brand new! all cleanI hope the tenant appreciates our hard work. We are slowly working through our list of things to do. So much has already been done which makes me feel so much better- I just hope to avoid running around on the last day like a chicken with its head cut off.

Things still to do:

  • call the bank to tell them that we are leaving
  • drano the bathtub
  • go to the bank to get our change changed into cA$H MoNeY!!!
  • call national grid
  • drop off my car
  • go to the post office to change my address
